CHF with ID is a major reason for hospitalization and represents important costs for the national health care budget in Austria. Yet, only a small percentage of CHF patients with ID are diagnosed. Based on IMS sales data (MAT4 2012 MAT4 2013, MAT 4 2014) around 30% of patients with iron deficiency or iron deficiency anemia obtain iron therapy. 80% receive oral iron therapy and only 20% iv iron therapy.

Budget impact of intravenous iron therapy with ferric carboxymaltose in patients with chronic heart failure and iron deficiency in Germany

AIMS Treatment of iron deficiency (ID) in patients with heart failure (HF) with intravenous iron substitution [ferric carboxymaltose (FCM)] has previously shown significant improvements in exercise capacity, New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class, quality of life, and reduction of hospitalization. The aim of this study was to estimate the budget impact of FCM treatment for patients ...

A Cost-effectiveness Analysis of Ferric Carboxymaltose in Patients With Iron Deficiency and Chronic Heart Failure in Spain.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Treatment with ferric carboxymaltose improves symptoms, functional capacity, and quality of life in patients with chronic heart failure and iron deficiency. The aim of this study was to assess the cost-effectiveness of ferric carboxymaltose treatment vs no treatment in these patients. METHODS We used an economic model based on the Spanish National Health System, wi...

Meta-analysis of efficacy and safety of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (Ferinject) from clinical trial reports and published trial data

BACKGROUND Recommendations given for intravenous iron treatment are typically not supported by a high level of evidence. This meta-analysis addressed this by summarising the available date from clinical trials of ferric carboxymaltose using clinical trial reports and published reports. METHODS Clinical trial reports were supplemented by electronic literature searches comparing ferric carboxym...

Cost-utility of ferric carboxymaltose (Ferinject®) for iron-deficiency anemia patients with chronic heart failure in South Korea

BACKGROUND Iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) is prevalent in patients with advanced chronic heart failure (CHF). It affects the patients' overall physical condition and is suggested as a strong outcome predictor in CHF. Recent clinical trials suggested that intravenous iron supplementation improves CHF functional status and quality of life. The aim of this study was to assess the cost-effectiveness ...

The impact of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose on renal function: an analysis of the FAIR-HF study

AIMS Anaemia and iron deficiency are constituents of the cardio-renal syndrome in chronic heart failure (CHF). We investigated the effects of i.v. iron in iron-deficient CHF patients on renal function, and the efficacy and safety of this therapy in patients with renal dysfunction. METHODS AND RESULTS The FAIR-HF trial randomized 459 CHF patients with iron deficiency (ferritin <100 µg/L, or be...
